Note for venues within the City of Austin: The voter approved "Smoking in Public Places Ordinance" took effect September 1, 2005. Essentially, the ordinance prohibits smoking inside any building open to the public with rare exceptions. Smoking is allowed outside at least 15' from any door.

Club 21, Uhland, Texas, 512-398-2901. A turn-of-the-century dancehall. Go ~12mi south on 183, turn right on 21, go ~10mi, its on the left. Or brave I-35 and go ~8mi east on 21. The building itself is about a block off the highway. When you get in the old section of town, slow down and look for one of those lighted signs with the movable black letters that sit on a small trailer axle. Great wood dance floor.
